VoIP and Alarm Systems

Voice of Internet Protocol, also known as VoIP, is a technology that converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet.

By switching your phone service to VoIP you can compromise the ability of your alarm system to transmit signals to the Central Station. Most alarm equipment was not designed to work with VoIP.

If you are a customer of our independent dealer network and thinking about switching your phone service or have already switched phone service, please call us at 1-800-300-9992.

If you are not our customer and have switched to VoIP, please contact your security company to let them know to make sure you are protected.

Other VoIP issues:

• Your alarm equipment cannot transmit to our Central Station during a power outage unless a back-up power source is supplied for your VoIP equipment.
• The Internet experiences more outages than regular phone lines.
• Compression of alarm signals may lead to loss or distortion when sent over the Internet.
• Not all equipment (answering machines, fax machines, modems, security panels, etc) will work in all cases.
